People are struggling with addictions, dysfunctional families, disillusionment, or discouragement. Many will try to fill the void in their heart with temporary fixes. Jesus is the only “fix”.
The divine appointment….Jesus seeks an outcast Samaritan woman and offers her the “fix” or “good news”.
The ferocious Assyrian army took many Israelites into exile and repopulated the region with exiles from other conquered lands, forcing the groups of people to intermarry. Their descendants were known as Samaritans, (named after the Northern Kingdom capital city). These “half-breeds” were despised by the remaining Jews. They were untouchable and unclean. But then Jesus……
What does verses 4-9 reveal about the humanity of Jesus?
If you were tired, famished, or thirsty, would you be incredibly chatty or willing to strike up a conversation with a stranger?
Why did Jesus ask for a drink from the woman? How did it make her feel?
