  1. I definitely think this site is better than you had it for about two days, Mrs. Samantha. But I also really like being able to see on the side when someone posts a comment.

    • Did you know that in 1890, an unknown St. Louis physician supposedly encouraged the owner of a food products company, George A. Bayle Jr., to process and package ground peanut paste as a nutritious protein substitute for people with poor teeth who couldn’t chew meat. The physician apparently had experimented by grinding peanuts in his hand-cranked meat grinder. Bayle mechanized the process and began selling peanut butter out of barrels for about 6¢ per pound.
And did you also know that around the same time, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in Battle Creek, Michigan, (the cereal capital of the world and my home town) began experimenting with peanut butter as a vegetarian source of protein for his patients. His brother, W.K. Kellogg, was business manager of their sanitarium, the Western Health Reform Institute, (also called the Battle Creek Sanitarium, to which my grandmother had worked as a nurse until she retired. In 1940, the sanitarim closed and became the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center. Along with the famous Kellogg Cereal Plant, the Hart-Dole Federal Center was a tour that every Battle Creek-Lakeview Spartan, that’s me, “Go Mighty Purple and White, toured through during the course of the school year!) but soon opened Sanitas Nut Company which supplied foods like peanut butter to local grocery stores.

The Kelloggs’ patent for the “Process of Preparing Nut Meal” in 1895 described “a pasty adhesive substance that is for convenience of distinction termed nut butter.” However, their peanut butter was not as tasty as peanut butter today because the peanuts were steamed, instead of roasted, prior to grinding. The Kellogg brothers turned their attention to cereals which eventually gained them worldwide recognition.

Joseph Lambert, a Kellogg employee who had worked on developing food processing equipment, began selling his own hand-operated peanut butter grinders in 1896. Three years later, his wife Almeeta published the first nut cookbook, “The Complete Guide to Nut Cookery” and two years later the Lambert Food Company was organized.

      • I think you need something to do, Mrs. Samantha!!! You aren’t doing school today, are you?

  2. Just wanted to make it official that there will be no one taking my place on the planning “Committee” and that Meredith will be taking Dana’s place. That will make it even with two boys and two girls.

    • There is no point in letting others do it if they are not going to try. But we could wait until around supper to do it so that those who are at school most of the day have a chance. Whatever.

  3. When you are on the website, you should push the green refresh button every few minutes just in case anyone else posts while you are on.

  11. Well, I haven’t been posting because I’m not in youth anymore, but since it’s mostly just you and Extreme KIC :) I figured I might as well. At least for today. ;)

    • I was at the Adullam House working hard. We completed our job later on Saturday so we stayed in the campground on Sunday. We were able to tour Fort Jackson and Fort Toulous. It was a nice day. We came home late Sunday.

  12. Mrs. Samantha, I did not find a ” copy image button ” so i have to save in it our desktop to be able to put the picture on the post. It does not take much more time.

  13. 3 Extreme cheers for Mr. Ron, Mrs. Samantha, Mr. Thomas, Mrs. Ashley, and Arri For making the KIC website fun and educational.

  20. Has anyone tried McDonald’s new mango pineapple smoothie? It is amazing!! P.S. Hey Lauren!!! It is way better than wild berry or banana strawberry. You should try it sometime.

  21. Well. You do not have to say vomit. All you have to say is I do not care for it. P.S. Can not totally wait for tomorrow!!!

  22. This is for day 8 on the KIC Challenge. It says to post a comment about an example of Middle Ground. An example of Middle Ground would be if somebody says it’s all right to tell a lie, and someone else says it’s wrong. The person on the “middle ground” would say that sometimes it’s right and sometimes it’s wrong to tell a lie.

    • Great job Miss Lauren B. Metzler! You are right, another good example is when your girlfriend asks if the hideous outfit she is wearing makes her look fat! Do you lie to protect her feelings or tell her the truth?

    • That is middle ground! On Jul 14, 2011 8:33 PM, “The Zundels” wrote: > Great job Miss Lauren B. Metzler! You are right, another good example is > when your girlfriend asks if the hideous outfit she is wearing makes her > look fat! Do you lie to protect her feelings or tell her the truth?

  29. The 25th December was a date picked by the Catholic church to appease the pagans who they were trying to convert, but who were not willing to give up their traditional holidays and festivals
